Abolitionist Realities of the Northeast

Syracuse University’s Anthropology Department will host Justin Helepololei, assistant professor of anthropology at Colgate University, for his lecture, “Abolitionist Realities of the Northeast.” The lecture will focus on New England’s prison abolitionists and their efforts to reform sheriff-run prisons. It will also highlight Haudenosaunee responses to harms that predate prisons.

When: Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Art Break: “Fruits of Their Labor” Curator Talk

“Fruits of Their Labor” at SU Art Museum explores women’s domestic and nondomestic work, and goes behind the scenes of the entertainment industry. The exhibit’s curator will discuss its organization and challenges to conventional depictions of labor.

When: Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Late Night Movie: “Conclave”

University Union’s Late Night Movie lineup continues with “Conclave,” a thriller about the Catholic church’s choice of a new pope. Entry is on a first come, first serve basis. No tickets are required, but attendees must present their SUID.

Homage to Black Wall Street

Join the Community Folk Art Center for an event honoring the history of Black Wall Street. Learn about Black entrepreneurs’ resilience and creativity to kick-off Black History Month. The celebration will also highlight Black-owned vendors and businesses in the Syracuse community. The event is free, but be sure to RSVP here.
